Tyler Math / Literacy Night a Success!John Tyler School held its first Math/Literacy night and it was a great success. Parents, families and students arrived to the cafeteria to hear from Principal Mr. Phillips who spoke about the importance of reading and math practice at home. Mr. Phillips then read his favorite Dr. Suess book to the group. The parents and students then went to their classrooms where teachers had stations set-up with math and reading activities that parents could duplicate for home practice. Tyler school families are the best!!
Tyler's Scholastic Book FairStudents, parents and staff members enjoyed the Tyler School Scholastic Book Fair. Money was raised for teachers to purchase books for their classroom libraries, more books for the Patty Cumming School Library, and a number of books were purchased as prizes for many students around the school. The book fair was organized and maintained by our fantastic parents, community volunteers, and retired Tyler teachers. Thank you to all of you for your support!!
7th and 8th Grade ProjectsJohn Tyler 7th and 8th grade students worked in teams and individually to create some very thoughtful and creative projects. Seventh graders created 3-D models from a 2-D drawing, while Eighth Graders created memorial plaques for a child of the Holocaust.
Tyler Math Olympians CompeteJohn Tyler School participated in this year's San Joaquin County Math Olympiad competition. We had two teams of 5 with 2 alternates compete by answering math questions in a team and individual setting. Coached by Mr. Mogan, Mrs. Bailey-Carr and Mr. Pinasco, the students performed well, and we all are looking forward to competing again next year.
